AP government approaches CJI against Justice NV Ramana over interference in state high court functioning

Vijayawada: Sitting Supreme Court Judge Justice NV Ramana is under scanner after Andhra Pradesh government complained to Chief Justice of India SA Bobde over his alleged interference in the functioning of state High Court allegedly to ā€œprotect the interests of TDPā€.

Principal Advisor to AP government Ajeya Kallam said that the state government has filed five Special Leave Petitions (SLPs) against the orders of Justice DV Somayyaajulu of AP High Court staying all further proceedings of the cabinet sub-committee and the SIT.

Besides, the SLPs were filed against AP High Court Chief Justice Jitendra Kumar Maheswariā€™s stay on investigation and the gag order on the reportage of FIR filed against the former Advocate General and the family members of the sitting Judge of the Supreme Court in what is now being referred to as Amaravati land scam.

The AP government has explained the CJI about the recent happenings in the AP High Court in particular reference to the intervention of the sitting judge of Supreme Court Justice NV Ramana in the proceedings of Andhra High Court.

Ajeya Kallam said there are instances about Justice NV Ramanaā€™s proximity with former chief minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu and his interventions to protect the interests of TDP and its party men. The instances of judicial impropriety of Justice NV Ramana while he was the judge of AP High Court in passing orders favoring Dammalapati Srinivas.

The AP government also placed material before the CJI about the recent happenings and orders passed by the AP High Court which is on an account of the direct influence exerted by Justice NV Ramana over the proceedings. It has also placed before the CJI about the recent instances of the orders passed by the AP High Court in connection with the Amaravati land scam.
