AP registers single biggest day spike of 81 cases; Krishna accounts for 52 cases

Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh reported the highest single day rise of COVID-19 positive cases on Sunday by 81 (so far the largest spurt in cases in a single day). The number of coronavirus cases in the State increased to 1,097 on Sunday. Fortunately, no COVID-19 deaths were reported on Sunday.

Of the 81 COVID-19 cases, Krishna district reported 52 cases followed by West Godavari at 12 cases, Kurnool at four cases, three cases each in Guntur, Kadapa and Prakasam districts. East Godavari and Anantapur districts registered two cases each.

Kurnool district in the State has emerged as a hot bed of the COVID-19 cases with 279 infections followed by Guntur district at 214 cases and Krishna district 177 cases.

The Medical and Family Welfare Department officials said that Andhra Pradesh reported 80 cases on April 23 and it reported 81 cases on April 26. The COVID-19 cases have been increasing in the State for past few days.

Meanwhile, 60 more patients recovered from the virus in the State and have been discharged in the last 24 hours. This takes the total number of cured to 231. Andhra Pradesh has a total of 835 active COVID-19 cases undergoing treatment in various hospitals. The officials said that some patients are in ICU and few of them are in critical condition.

The Vizianagaram district is the only district in the State which continues to maintain a clean slate with zero cases till date.

A total of 6,768 samples were tested from 9 am on Saturday to 9 am on Sunday, of which 81 turned positive and the remaining proved negative.
