AP reports 3 deaths and 80 cases in 24 hours; Guntur,  Kurnool worst hit

Vijayawada, April 23: Three more COVID-19 deaths were reported in Andhra Pradesh while the hotbeds continued to register new positive cases as toll increased to 27 on Thursday. The number of infected shot up to 893 with the addition of 80 new cases in the last 24 hours.

Two deaths were reported from Kurnool district and Krishna district reported one death. So far Guntur district has reported 8 deaths, highest in the State followed by Kurnool and Krishna districts with 7 deaths each.

The Kurnool district, which has emerged a hot bed of COVID-19 cases, crossed the double century mark with a total of 234 cases, with 31 new COVID-19 positive cases on Thursday, the highest in the State. The Guntur district is about to the cross 200 mark as the district reported 195 COVID-19 positive cases with the addition of 18 new cases on Thursday.

Meanwhile, 21 more patients recovered from the disease and have been discharged in the last 24 hours. This takes the total number of cured to 141.

Andhra Pradesh has a total of 725 active COVID-19 cases undergoing treatment in various hospitals. Official sources said about 25 of these patients are in ICU and some of them are in critical condition.

For the fifth consecutive day, Nellore district didn’t register a single new case. The two north coastal districts of Srikakulam and Vizianagaram continued to maintain a clean slate with zero cases till date.

A total of 6,523 samples were tested from 9 am on Wednesday to 9 am on Thursday, of which 80 turned positive and the remaining proved negative.
