APs COVID cases on a rise but positivity rate is low

Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh on Thursday reported an all-time high of 553 Covid-19 cases in a single day while seven more people died of the virus. The tally rose of Covid-19 cases rose to 10,884 while death toll jumped to 136. Though the number of COVID cases are on a rise, the state's positivity rate in below 5 %. This is an indicate of good news for the authorities.

Andhra Pradesh has tested 769319 lakh samples ever since the pandemic broke in the state. Of the total 10884 showed positive for COVID. Currently the health authorities are treating 5760 actives and 4988 have recovered. The state's positivity rate stands at 1.41 % and recovery 45.83 %.

Meanwhile, Two deaths each were reported from Krishna, Kurnool and Guntur districts while East Godavari district reported one death on Thursday.

The surge in Covid-19 cases as well as deaths due to Coronavirus in Andhra Pradesh has been continuing for the last 10 days.

Krishna district reported 45 Covid-19 deaths (highest in the state) followed by Kurnool district with 44 deaths and Guntur with 16 deaths. As many as 118 people were discharged from various treating facilities on Thursday.

At present, there are 5,760 active Covid-19 cases in Andhra Pradesh with 4,988 cumulative recoveries and 136 deaths.

Altogether 2,101 people who returned from other states and countries were found positive for the disease as of Thursday.

Coming to local infections, Kurnool district alone contributed 1,555 cases, followed by Krishna district 1,179, Anantapur district 1,080, Guntur 958 and East Godavari 824.

The officials of the medical and family welfare department said that of the 1,730 Covid-19 infections among returnees from other states as many as 803 were from Maharashtra followed by 386 from Tamil Nadu, 294 from Telangana, 83 from Delhi and 46 from Gujarat.

Of the 371 Covid-19 infections among the foreign returnees, Kuwait alone contributed 316 cases followed by Qatar 15, Saudi Arabia 11 and Kazakhstan 8.

A total of 19, 085 samples were tested in the last 24 hours, from Wednesday 9 am to Thursday 9 am. Of them, 477 tested Covid-19 positive.
