AP’s first Coronavirus patient cured, discharged from Nellore hospital

Nellore: The first Coronavirus patient of Andhra Pradesh was discharged from the isolation ward of the Nellore government general hospital on 23 March.

A student from Nellore who was studying in Italy had returned home on 6 March. He had been admitted to the isolation ward of the government hospital on 9 March after he started displaying symptoms of the virus. He was isolated for more than two weeks after he tested positive. His blood samples were tested again recently on Saturday and he had tested negative.

Medical and health officials had kept him in the hospital because the protocol states that the patient can only be discharged if his second test comes back negative. They had collected his blood samples and sent them to SVIMS in Tirupati. On Monday the officials found out he had tested negative for COVID-19. While the hospital authorities have discharged him the government is yet to make an official announcement.
