Arun Jaitley cremated with full state honours
By Newsmeter Network Published on 25 Aug 2019 4:58 PM GMTDelhi : Former Union Minister and veteran BJP leader Arun Jaitley was cremated with full state honours at New Delhi's Nigambodh Ghat on Saturday.
The last rites of Jaitley were carried out by his son Rohan Jaitley, who brought his father's mortal remains inside the cremation ground.
The sky opened up as Rohan Rohan lit the pyre amid chanting of vedic hymns among thousands of people. Almost the entire BJP cadre was present including other opposition leaders, who were present there to pay their final respects to Jaitley.
Senior leaders laid wreaths on the mortal remains and a gun salute was given before the last rites.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on a foreign visit, had on Saturday paid an emotional tribute to Jaitley, saying he cannot imagine that he was far away from India in Bahrain while his "dear friend" had passed away in New Delhi.
Among other leaders who were present during Jaitley's cremation were Vice President Venkaiah Naidu, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, BJP veteran leader LK Advani, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, party's working president J P Nadda, Nirmala Sitharaman, Smriti Irani and Anurag Thakur. Among those present from Congress were Ghulam Nabi Azad, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Kapil Sibal and Praful Patel.
