Visakhapatnam: The Vizag city police arrested N. Nutan Naidu of ‘Big Boss’ fame on 4 September in connection with the tonsuring of a 20-year-old Dalit youth Parri Srikanth. Naidu also impersonated the retired IAS officer and additional chief secretary to the AP government P.V Ramesh to protect his wife N. Priya Madhuri, who is the prime accused in the case.

On 29 August, the Vizag police had arrested seven persons, including Naidu’s wife, for assaulting and tonsuring Srikanth a day before at Naidu’s house.

The city police chief, Manish Kumar Sinha, said their investigation had revealed that on 28 August Naidu had made video calls to his wife Priya twice from Hyderabad. He had also threatened and abused Srikanth on the phone.

The next day, a man who claimed to be retired IAS officer P.V Ramesh called medical officers Dr. Sujatha and Dr. Vasudev, and the principal of Andhra Medical College and superintendent of King George Hospital Dr. P.V Sudhakar. The man told them to give a medical certificate to six of the seven arrested in the tonsure case to send them to jail and refer one accused, Priya Madhuri, to hospital citing health issues.

Suspecting that the caller was not P.V Ramesh, Dr. Sudhakar called Mr. Ramesh and found out that the caller had impersonated the retired civil servant. Dr. Sudhakar also informed the police chief about the phone call.

According to the police, Naidu travelled to Bengaluru from Hyderabad and later to Mangalore. He was taken into custody at the Udipi railway station with the help of the Karnataka police. Four mobile phones were also recovered from Naidu.

Naidu tried to throw away the mobile phone he had used to make calls as Mr. Ramesh. However, the cops seized the phone. The phone number matched the mobile phones seized from Naidu. The police said he will be brought to Vizag from Udipi.

Mr. Sinha said that Naidu had cheated some people in the past by posing as Mr. Ramesh.
