Biggest Seizure: 6, 000 kgs dry ganja seized in Vizag;

Visakhapatnam: The special task force teams of the prohibition and excise department with the support of Vizag Rural police seized a huge consignment of ganja at Biroguda tribal hamlet under Munchingiput Mandal in Vizag Agency on Tuesday. The officials seized over 6,000 kgs (6 tonnes) of dry ganja worth Rs 8 crore, which was stored in a house and nabbed two persons. It was the biggest seizure of the department so far in the region.

Excise Inspector, Anakapalle, D Anil Kumar said that based on the key inputs from their intelligence, the teams from Anakapalle and Paderu in the district with the support of local police carried out a surprise raid and seized the ganja dump. We arrested K Trinadh (30), who is guarding the green drug and another person in the case so far.

Our investigation has revealed that a group of ganja smugglers procured the weed from the parts of Chitrakonda in Odisha, Seeleru, Pedabayalu and a few other areas in the Vizag Agency. We are also suspecting that one Suresh from Munchingputtu and another Subhash from Odisha are the major suppliers and kingpins in the case.

The gang procured the ganja to transport to Delhi through various routes, including train and road routes. Our investigation will be focused on nabbing the kingpin in the case, Anil Kumar added.

Sources in the police said that of the total 11 Mandals in the Vizag Agency, the cultivation of the cannabis has been taking place in eight mandals_ GK Veedhi, Chintapalli, G Madugula, Pedabayalu, Munchingput, Koyyuru, Paderu and Hukumpeta. The enforcement officials have found that some youngsters took to the ganja trade for easy money and a joyful life. Due to the cash crunch, the youngsters (ganja peddlers) are receiving good money for transporting the contraband from one place another or storing the ganja at isolated places.
