Telangana cop manhandles BJP MP, Kishan Reddy asks for report

Hyderabad: Hours after Karimnagar police allegedly manhandled BJP MP Bandi Sanjay on Friday, Minister of State for Home G. Kishan Reddy has sought a detailed report on the incident. He spoke to Telangana DGP M Mahendar Reddy over the phone and asked him to submit the report at the earliest.

Responding to the incident over twitter Kishan Reddy said, " Was apprised of the unfortunate incident of manhandling of Bandi Sanjay MP - Karimnagar, upon landing. Called him right after the incident for first hand information. Spoke to Telangana Director General of Police and asked for a detailed report into this incident to be submitted to the Government of India at the earliest."

Bandi Sanjay of BJP, and several leaders of his party were a part of the funeral procession of RTC driver N Babu, who died while attending Sakala Janula Bheri, a strike by state government employees, in Hyderabad on Wednesday. Even before the procession started from Babu's home in Karimnagar, a large contingent of police and armed personnel cordoned off the area.

Initially, the police did not allow Babu's family to take his body to Karimnagar II depot and then to his native village Arepalli. The cops relented after much persuasion and the procession was allowed amid tight security.

However, tempers flew at the burial ground after the police restrained everybody other than the family members from entering the site. This led to a scuffle between those who had joined the funeral procession and the police. In the process, when Bandi Sanjay tried to enter the premises, an assistant commissioner of police and few other cops allegedly manhandled him and pushed him away.

"Despite knowing that I am an MP, their behaviour is unacceptable," said Sanjay. Later, he and several BJP leaders and RTC employees staged a protest outside Karimnagar commissioner's office. The incident drew wide criticism from various circles. BJP's G Vivek and MRPS leader Manda Krishna Madiga also joined the protest that went on till late Friday.

Nizamabad MP D Arvind came out in support of Sanjay. "I am anguished to remind Mr. Mahender reddy, DGP, that we are all Public servants, paid by the public to safeguard their lives & properties and not kalvakuntla family and TRS party. *Bandi sanjay, MP, Karimnagar, manhandled by police*" he tweeted.
