Warangal: Amid the citizenship row that is raging across the country, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) organised a massive rally in Hanamkonda mustering support for Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) on Wednesday. The rally, comprising party cadre activists and other supporters, was organised from Thousand Pillars Temple to Public Gardens.

Speaking at the rally, Karimnagar MP Bandi Sanjay said that the ruling TRS, in collusion with AIMIM and Congress, is campaigning against the much-needed CAA, which is meant to ensure the safety of genuine Indian citizens. Lauding the spirit of the people of Warangal, he said that there was absolutely no justification in opposing the CAA. Invoking the name of former ABVP activist late Sama Jaganmohan Reddy, he claimed that the Act will set right the imbalances of citizenship rights in the Constitution.

BJP Warangal district president Rao Padma castigated TRS for bringing back the rule of Razakars in Telangana with support from the Majlis. Now that their game-plan was exposed, she appealed to every Indian to support the Act.

Former MLA Marthineni Dharma Rao was critical of TRS and said that the ruling party will pay a heavy price for colluding with communal forces.

Other party leaders Gujjula Premender Reddy, Edla Ashok Reddy and Dr G Vijayarama Rao spoke about how India suffered at the hands of Pakistan. It is because of Islamabad’s attacks on Indian nationals that CAA was brought in.

Meanwhile, the police made elaborate arrangements to enable the rally to pass off smoothly. City's traffic was diverted to several by-lanes in Hanamkonda on Warangal-Kazipet main road.

It may be recalled that a rally opposing the CAA was organised in Warangal recently by Congress and Left parties.

Seemingly, it looks like civic issues will make way for CAA as electioneering for civic bodies peaks.
