Boat tragedy: CM Jagan directs suspension of boating services

Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Sunday directed officials to suspend boating services immediately in the region. Officials were also directed to examine the existing boats if they could be used for transportation.

Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy asked that the licences of the boats to be checked, staff adequately trained and if the boats have precautionary measures in place or not.

While enquiring about the boat accident at Devipatnam with the East Godavari district collector, the CM directed the concerned officials to carry out rescue operations on a war-footing and to use the services of the NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) teams, besides pressing into service the Navy and ONGC helicopters.

The ministers available in the district have been asked to supervise the rescue work at the site. Mr Jagan has asked for a complete report on the incident along with release of safety guidelines prepared by an experts committee.
