Boiler blast in Srikakulam, 2 dead, 1 hurt

Srikakulam : Two workers died on the spot and another worker suffered burn injuries after a boiler exploded at the Aurobindo Pharmaceuticals, Pydibhimavaram under Ranastalam mandal in Srikakulam district on Sunday morning.

The victims who died were identified as K. Rahul (shift in-charge) and boiler operator P. Raja Rao. The injured worker Sanyasi Rao was admitted to a hospital, where his condition is said to be critical.

Though the exact reasons for the accident which took place around 9 am on Sunday are yet to be ascertained, CITU leaders suspect excess pressure in the boiler might have led to the explosion and death of the two persons.

It is learnt that the management of the pharma company is not allowing trade union leaders inside the unit. CITU leaders said that the management of the company was responsible for the accident and demanded the district administration to initiate action against the management.

Workers of the pharma company have organised various protests demanding that the management fulfil their demands.
