Bollywood Megastar Amitabh Bachchan praises increase in number of Tigers in India

Bollywood Megastar Amitabh Bachchan took to his Twitter to praise the increase in the number of the Tigers on the occasion of International Tigers Day.

While sharing an awareness video on Tiger conservation, Mr Bachhan said that he is honoured to be part of the awareness campaign.

In the video, he is also seen distributing sweets to the cops for increase in the Tiger population. He also thanked the cops in the video for guarding the Tigers which helped in increasing their population.

He tweeted, "T 3241 - Tiger numbers increase 2226 in 2014 to 2967 in 2018. Maharashtra increase from 190 in 2014 to 312 in 2018. Today, Global Tiger day .. a triumph of the Campaign conducted .. honoured to have played a small part as Ambassador".



In the year 2015, Mr Bachan had accepted the proposal of Maharashtra Forest Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar to be the tiger ambassador of the state.

With the aim to promote tiger tourism in Maharashtra state forest minister Mungantiwar had requested Bachchan to represent the state as its tiger ambassador. Mungantiwar had also written a letter to Mr Bachchan in this regard on July 29,2015.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi released the All India Tiger Estimation Report 2018 on July 29,2019 and said the country had emerged as of one of the biggest and safest habitats for tigers in the world.

The tiger population in India has grown from 1,411 in 2006 to 2,967 in 2019, according to the report.
