Case against actress Bhanupriya, brother for harassing minor

Chennai: Popular actress Bhanupriya and her brother Gopalakrishna are in trouble. Tamil Nadu, Pondy Bazaar police have filed a case on the brother, sister for harassing a minor girl whom they engaged as domestic help. The actress is well known down south and has acted in several Telugu and Tamil films.

An FIR has been registered on them, by the superintendent of police, East Godavari, Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, after it was transferred to them from Samalkot police station.

A case under the Juvenile Justice Act for criminal intimidation was registered first at Samalkot, Andhra Pradesh. The case has now been transferred to Chennai. The actress Bhanupriya has been booked under Sections 323 (Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation), 341 (Punishment for wrongful restraint) and 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the IPC and Juvenile Justice Act Sections 75 (Punishment for cruelty to the child) and 79 (Keeping a child under bondage for employment).

These cases are not small. Prabhavathi, the mother of the minor girl, has alleged that the actress engaged her daughter in domestic work for more than 18 months. She told the police, that her daughter was never paid for the work she did.

The mother alleged that in January, that Gopalakrishnan had alleged that her daughter stole valuables worth Rs 10 lakh from their house. The mother said, that he told her that she will be allowed to meet her daughter only if she pays that amount. The mother also alleged that Gopalakrishnan had sexually harassed her daughter while she was working there. Police in February 2019 arrested Prabhavathi mother and her 16-yr-old daughter. The girl was sent to a government home. The duo was then arrested for theft. Police then raided the house of actress Bhanupriya and found three domestic helps according to media reports then.
