Hyderabad: A case has been registered against four persons after medicos and healthcare staff were allegedly assaulted by Corona patients at Gandhi Hospital on 1 April. Charges of assault or criminal force against public servants, criminal intimidation, and other charges under the Epidemics Act and Disaster Management Act have been brought against the four at Chilkalguda police station.

As per the directions of DGP M. Mahender Reddy, measures have been taken by the Hyderabad city police to increase security at the hospital. Meanwhile, on Thursday, the DGP visited the hospital and interacted with the medicos and other hospital staff. He has assured them full support from the police department.

Two additional DCP-rank officers have been posted to monitor security at the hospital round-the-clock. Further, the police have directed hospital authorities to reduce the number of entries to the hospital and also to the building where the patients are being treated.

Since the outbreak of the virus, there has been a demand from the medical staff and hospital authorities to increase security at the hospital. After Wednesday’s incident, medicos threatened to boycott duties if adequate security measures were not taken to ensure their safety. Hyderabad police commissioner Anjani Kumar visited the hospital, interacted with the medicos and hospital staff and assured them that all measures will be taken to protect them.
