CBI uncovers minister Sabita’s role in Jagans quid pro quo case

Hyderabad: The Central Bureau of Investigation states that they have found evidence of the former minister Sabita Indra Reddy’s role in regards to Penna Cement Group of Companies’ investments in YS Jagan Mohan-linked entities. The CBI also found the involvement of two IAS officers and other Revenue officials.

CBI Public Prosecutor K Surender Rao made these submissions before the CBI Special Court on Friday. He also requested the court to take cognisance of the supplementary charge sheet filed in this regard in 2016. Penna Cement is also one of the accused in the disproportionate assets case against YS Jagan Mohan Reddy being tried in the CBI Special Court in Hyderabad.

The counsel for Penna Cement Group opposed the filing of the supplementary charge sheet contending that the CBI had filed a memo on September 23, 2013, stating that investigation into Penna Cement’s investments was completed. It is not open to them after three years to file a supplementary charge sheet, especially without any new facts or issues.

The CBI counsel rebutted this contention stating that new facts about the role of the former minister and other officials regarding these investments have emerged during further investigation. Therefore, the agency is within its rights to file a supplementary charge sheet. Surender Rao also sought time to bring on-record Supreme Court judgments in support of his contentions. The next hearing will be on October 11.
