Centre has no role in Uranium mining, says BJP

Hyderabad: The BJP Telangana chapter came down heavily on the ruling TRS and opposition Congress party. It was the then Congress government and the present TRS government that permitted exploring mineral reserves across the state, said Dr K Laxman, BJP Telangana president. He further said that there was no role of the NDA government in the ongoing Uranium mining in Andhra Pradesh.

“The then Congress government gave necessary approval for surveying mineral resources in united Andhra Pradesh. Subsequently, after the formation of the Telangana State, the TRS government in 2016 okayed the study of mineral resources across the state. The same TRS government yesterday passed a resolution against Uranium mining. This is clearly showing the dual act of the TRS government. Chief Minister K Chandrashekhara Rao is misleading the Telanganites. The Centre so far has not taken any decision on Uranium mining in the Nallamala forest area. Generally, it’s the responsibility of any government to explore natural resources in the state. Towards this, previous governments gave approval,” said Dr Laxman.

A day before passing the resolution in the Telangana Assembly, the BJP Telangana unit called for an all-party meeting. However, the Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao hijacked the issue by passing the resolution in the Assembly, said a political analyst.

The TRS government on Monday unanimously passed the resolution against Uranium mining anywhere in Telangana.

On the other hand, Congress MP Revanth Reddy has been raising his voice against Uranium mining in the state. "The Uranium mining will spoil the eco-system along Krishna River and further damage the wildlife in the Nallamala forest area. Over 12,000 Chenchu tribals and their 125 hamlets in Nallamala forest area will be in danger if Uranium mining is allowed. Because of our efforts and criticism, the TRS government has passed the resolution against Uranium mining," said Mr Reddy.
