Chiranjeevi’s ‘Sye Raa’ lands in controversy

Hyderabad: Tollywood megastar Chiranjeevi’s ‘Sye Raa’ has landed in controversy. This comes a fortnight before its grand world-wide release on October 2. The film is based on the life of Kurnool-based freedom fighter Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy. Uyyalawada’s successors have made allegations against Chiranjeevi and his actor son Ramcharan Tej who is producing the movie.

The freedom fighter’s family have alleged that Chiranjeevi and his son promised to offer a share of the movie’s earnings. When repeated attempts by Uyyalawada’s family to meet Chiranjeevi and Ramcharan failed; Uyyalawada’s family members protested outside the actor’s residence. A complaint was also lodged against both the actors at the Jubilee Hills police station in Hyderabad.

One of Uyyalawada’s successors, Datta Reddy said, “The producer and the movie unit approached us for permission and made an agreement. They collected details about the life of Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy. Some portions of the movie were shoot at the ancestral house and other places where Uyyalawada lived. However, after everything is completed, they duped us. They even ignored the agreement signed between us. We tried to meet them and explain our concerns, but in vain.”

Datta Reddy was accompanied by other family members and their advocate. They sought legal action against the makers and the megastar for allegedly cheating them.

Sye Raa’ , is Chiranjeevi’s 151st movie. It is being produced by his son and actor Ramcharan Tej under their production banner Konidela Productions. Ramcharan makes his debut as a producer with this movie.

The movie has Amitabh Bachchan play the role of Chiranjeevi’s mentor. Other stars Nayantara, Tamanna Bharya, Vijay Setupathi also play major roles. The movie is slated for a worldwide release on October 2.
