Church priest conducts mass in Krishna district, lands in soup

Vijayawada: The Krishna district police has decided to register a case against a priest of RCM Church, located at Pedana area in Krishna district, for conducting a holy mass defying restrictions in place to curb COVID-19.

Over 100 people participated in the mass. The police reached the church after getting information about the mass with the parishioners in attendance.

Answering police queries, the priest and the parishioners are reported to have said that the mass was called to discuss the dreaded COVID-19.

The police said case will be registered against the ptiest for defying instructions from various departments. The police are also mulling registering cases against the attendees for defying lockdown norms and failing to maintain social distancing.

Christian leaders in the State had insisted they should attend holy mass online from their homes. The AP government has advised the public and religious organizations to avoid all mass gatherings and reduced festivals to mere rituals to contain the spread of the virus.
