Conwoman swindles school managements through fake profiles

Hyderabad: Using just a smartphone, a conwoman was able to swindle money from reputed school managements. She created fake social media profiles of reputed schools in the city and used them to blackmail school managements. Hyderabad Cybercrime wing arrested the woman, Neha Fatima, on Wednesday. Though Neha had collected money from at least 15 schools in the city, the issue became known when a playschool and daycare principal approached the police.

The principal told police that she operates all social media accounts of the school and posts updates on them as well. This includes pictures of school events, students, teachers and parents. However, from her sources, she found that another page with the school name was created on several social media platforms. The fake page hosts vulgar and obscene posts with morphed photos of parents, teachers and other school staff.

Police on inquiry found that Neha browses Google, Facebook, Instagram profiles of different schools in Hyderabad and collect photographs of students and parents from those pages. After collecting pictures, she creates fake profiles on social media and uploads morphed and obscene photos of her targets. She also relies on Google to find her target school’s phone numbers. Once she has that, she would send them a text through WhatsApp until they respond. After they respond, she introduces herself as Sairah Joseph, an IT Professional.

She offers help in turn for money to remove these fake pages and then delete the content from her end. Keeping in mind their school’s reputation, many had paid her massive amounts.
