Hyderabad: A degree student from Hyderabad's Old City alleged that two Kalapather constables beat him up for no reason, while he was standing with his brother near a mutton shop near his house on Saturday.

Md Saleem K Farzand was standing outside a mutton shop near Aqsa masjid in Kalapather when two constables approached him and beat him up. His friend took a video and his brother ran to call their mother. The cops continued to trash him. The victim and his mother went to Kalapather police station for filing a complaint.

Later, Farzand told media persons, “The police started interrogating me asking why I am standing there and later started beating me for no reason. They also swore at the person who was taking the video. I was not at fault and I want the two constables suspended.”

His grandmother said “My grandson lost his father in the 2007 Mecca Masjid bomb blast. The cops were drunk. We are a poor family and my daughter is bringing up these kids by doing tailoring work.”

SHO of Kalapather while speaking to the media said, “There is no fault of cops, who were on patrol. When they reached Aqsa Masjid, they found the youngsters taking ganja. The constables tried to catch hold of them, but the boy created nuisance and ran away.”
