Corona virus: Andhra Pradesh reports its eight positive case

Tirupati: One more person tested positive for Corona virus in Andhra Pradesh, taking the total number of confirmed cases in the state to eight. A 25-year-old man, who returned to Srikalhasti in Chittoor district from London on 19 March, was admitted to RUIA Hospital in Tirupati with suspected symptoms of Corona virus on 23 March. He tested positive on Tuesday.

On Tuesday a total of 76 samples were tested in Andhra Pradesh, of which 61 were negative, one tested positive, and results for 14 samples are pending. A total of 14,907 people who returned to various parts of Andhra Pradesh from foreign countries are under surveillance. As of now, 2,723 foreign returnees have completed 28 days observation, 13,290 are under home isolation, and 84 persons were admitted to hospital.

On the instruction of chief secretary Nilam Sawhney and director general of police Gowtham Sawang, a strict lockdown has been implemented across Andhra Pradesh with naka bandhi of major junctions. Police have been deployed to allow only emergency staff. Residents can come out to buy daily essential but only within 3km of their residence.

Health minister Alla Nani said AP government has been taking numerous measures to contain the spread of Corona virus and imposed lockdown in the state till 31 March. The first Corona virus patient of Andhra Pradesh was discharged from the isolation ward of the Nellore government hospital on Monday. The condition of the COVID-19 patients in the state is stable, the minister said.
