Corona virus: Chittoor reports districts first positive case

Chittoor: A 25-year-old man from Srikalahasti tested positive for Corona virus on 24 March. He had returned from London and landed at the Chennai International airport on 19 March. After he reached his home in Srikalahasti, he suffered from cough and fever. Health officials admitted him to Ruia Hospital where the doctors collected his samples on 23 March. SVIMS tested the samples and announced that he had tested positive.

This is the first positive case in Chittoor district and the district administration is planning to intensify preventive measures besides the lockdown and curfew already in place in the district. Tirupati Municipal Corporation has already started a survey of foreign returnees and identifying suspect cases.

Dr Penchalaiah, district medical and health officer, said they had started a door-to-door survey to cover a 3-km radius around the patient's house. His family would also be sent to a quarantine ward for further observation, he said, adding they received the patient's report on Tuesday evening and have already swung into action.
