Hyderabad: In the wake of the outbreak of Corona virus in Hyderabad, the International Institution of Information Technology Hyderabad (IIITH) postponed its annual SHOWCASE 2020. The event provides an opportunity for the public to see the recent research initiatives of IIITH students and faculties.
Sunory Dutt, IIITH spokesperson, told NewsMeter, “The event is an annual showcase of IIIT’s works where we invite the public to take a look at the researches that are happening in the institute. Because of the Corona virus scare we have postponed the exhibition. Tentative date will be announced later.”
The spokesperson further said the institution is carrying out all the precautionary measures against Corona virus as stipulated by the government. “We are also sending internal emails to create awareness among the students and have given them a few pointers on how to be careful,” she added.
Meanwhile, experts have advised people to avoid public gatherings to prevent the spread of COVID-19 Novel Corona virus. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also announced that he will not be part of any Holi celebration this year. He tweeted, “Experts across the world have advised to reduce mass gatherings to avoid the spread of COVID-19 Novel Coronavirus. Hence, this year I have decided not to participate in any Holi Milan programme. (sic)”
Meanwhile, a petition was filed in the Telangana High Court seeking a ban on Holi celebrations this year in the wake of the Corona virus outbreak in the state. According to the petitioner, Gampa Siddalakshmi, a resident of Manikonda, the celebrations slated for 9 and 10 March will include mass gatherings which could increase the risk of infection. In her petition, she urged the court to ban these celebrations out of concern for public health and save the revellers from getting infected.
