Coronavirus: Jump in price of railway tickets in AP

Vijayawada: Call it coronavirus effect; Railways have increased the cost of platform tickets in 20 stations across the Vijayawada Division.

Price of the tickets has been increased from the existing Rs. 10 to Rs. 50 to avoid huge gatherings at NSG-2, 3 and 4 category platforms. Officials said this is a precautionary measure to decongest the railway stations that normally remain packed up with people.

On Tuesday, Vijayawada Division announced that the revised charges will come to effect from March 18. The railway stations where the platform tickets will be costlier include Vijayawada, Gudur, Nellore, Ongole, Chirala, Tenali, Eluru, TP Gudem, Rajahmundry, Samlkot, Kakinada town, Tuni, Anakapalle, Bhimavaram Town, Nidadavolu, Kakinada Port, Annavaram, Bhimavaram Junction, Gudivada, and Narsapur. The revised charges will remain in force up to March 31.

The rest of the railway stations in the Vijayawada division are coming under NSG-5 and 6 categories and the platform ticket will cost Rs. 20. In Vijayawada station, passengers shall have to pay Rs. 50 for platform tickets from Wednesday.

There are 110 railway stations in Vijayawada division in which 20 stations come under NSG 2,3, 4 categories, 22 stations under NSG 5 and 68 stations under NSG 6 category.
