Corrupt couple: Telangana ACB traps husband after arresting wife

Hyderabad: A superintendent working at the Regional Director's office in the Department of Municipal Administration, along with his associate were caught taking a bribe in Hyderabad on Saturday. Anti Corruption Bureau arrested the duo. The accused N Venkateswara Naik and his associate Kandukuri Prakash accepted the bribe amount of Rs 2.50 lakh from the victim. They further demanded Rs 40,000, for appointing the victim on an outsourcing basis at the office of Regional Director, Hyderabad.

Venkateshwara Naik's wife Keshampet tahsildar V Lavanya was arrested a month ago by ACB for possessing illegal assets. Immediately after the arrest, Naik went absconding, as he was also on the radar. Revenue department recently honoured Lavanya with best tahsildar award for her 'meritorious service'.

Naik and Prakash collected Rs 2.50 lakh from the victim V Gangadhar and appointed him. For continuing him in office and extend health and provident fund benefits to him, they further demanded Rs 40,000 from the victim. Based on a tip-off, ACB rapped and recovered, the bribe amount from them.

Before the arrest of Lavanya, Keshampet tahsildar office staff, including the Village Revenue Officers were facing allegations of collecting mamools from people for doing official favours. It is alleged that they are doing it under the direction of Lavanya and the staff used to share the money collected among themselves. The major share used to go to Lavanya.
