COVID-19: Andhra Pradesh reports 67 new positive cases

Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh reported 67 new COVID-19 cases on 4 May, taking the total number of positive cases in the state to 1,650. However, no new COVID-19 deaths were reported in the state where the virus has so far claimed 33 lives.

Of the 67 new positive cases, 25 were reported in Kurnool and 19 in Guntur. Krishan district reported 12 cases, Vizag reported six, and Kadapa four, while one positive case was reported in Chittoor.

Kurnool has the highest number of COVID-19 cases in the state at 491, followed by Guntur and Krishna with 338 and 278 cases, respectively.

Officials of the medical and family welfare department said 10,292 samples were tested in the last 24 hours, of which 67 tested positive. Also, 36 patients have recovered and have been discharged. So far, 524 patients have recovered and have been discharged from hospitals in the state, while 33 succumbed to the pandemic and 1,093 are still undergoing treatment. The officials said the number of positive cases has gone down in the state in the past few days and in the coming days, the numbers will go down even further.

Meanwhile, the Andhra Pradesh government released a notification to recruit 835 specialist doctors to work in COVID-designated hospitals and another 235 specialists to work in various government hospitals in the state. The applicants can apply online on or before 7 May.
