COVID-19: Andhra Pradesh sees highest single-day spike with 5,041 cases, 56 deaths

Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh, on 19 July, saw its highest single-day spike with 5,041 COVID-19 cases and 56 deaths in the past 24 hours. The total number of COVID-19 cases in the state has now reached 49,650, while the death toll stands at 642.

For the second consecutive day, East Godavari reported the highest number of cases, 647, and deaths, 10, in the state. Eight people died of corona virus in Srikakulam, while seven deaths each were reported in Kurnool, Visakhapatnam, and Krishna districts. Prakasam district reported four deaths, while three deaths each were reported in Anantapur, Kadapa, and Vizianagaram districts. Guntur and Chittoor districts each reported two deaths. Also, Krishna district has the second-highest COVID-19 deaths at 101.

Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh reported around 70 per cent of its total cases and deaths in July alone. On 1 July, the number of COVID-19 cases stood at 15,252, while the total number of deaths was 193. In the next few days, the cases increased at a rate of over 10 per cent and from 6 July, the daily spike in infections has been over 1,000. In the past three days, more than 2,000 people have tested positive every day. On Saturday alone, 3,963 positive cases were reported.

Across the state, 1,106 patients have recovered from the virus and have been discharged from various hospitals in the past 24 hours. So far, 22,890 people have recovered from the virus in the state. The number of active COVID-19 cases now stands at 26,118.
