COVID-19: Cases in Andhra Pradesh cross 9,000 mark, death toll now 111

Vijayawada: The number of COVID-19 cases and deaths in Andhra Pradesh continues to rise. On 22 June, the state reported 443 positive cases and five deaths taking the total number of cases in the state to 9,372 and the death toll to 111.

One death each was reported from Kurnool, Krishna, Anantapur, West Godavari, and Vizag districts. This is the first death reported in West Godavari.

Meanwhile, 16,704 samples were tested in the past 24 hours in the state, of which 392 tested positive. Also, 44 people who returned to various parts of Andhra Pradesh from other states and seven foreign returnees tested positive.

Of the 9,372 cases in the state, 7,451 are local cases, while 337 are foreign returnees, and 1,584 are people from other states. Eighty-three patients have recovered and been discharged from various hospitals across the state in the past 24 hours. Meanwhile, 4,435 patients have recovered from the virus so far, of which 946 are from other states and 52 are foreign returnees. The state now has 4, 826 active cases, including 638 from other states and 285 foreign returnees.

On the COVID-19 death toll front, Krishna district has reported the highest COVID-19 deaths, 37, followed by Kurnool district with 35 deaths and Guntur with 11 deaths. Anantapur has reported seven deaths, Chittoor six, and East Godavari five. Nellore has reported four deaths, while Vizag and Prakasam have reported two deaths each. West Godavari and Srikakulam districts have reported one death each. Vizianagaram and Kadapa districts haven’t reported any deaths so far.
