COVID-19: Central team makes third visit to Telangana

Hyderabad: With Telangana having crossed 14,000 positive cases on June 28, a special Covid-19 team from the central government is making a visit to aid the state in its battle against the novel Coronavirus.

Headed by Union health ministry's joint secretary, Lav Agarwal, the team will be assessing the condition of multiple state hospitals throughout the day, while reviewing testing measures, implementation of containment strategies and treatment protocols undertaken by the state authorities.

The team began its inspection with a visit to the newly-established Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (TIMS), Gachibowli, where they reviewed the condition of isolation wards and ICU beds. The newly operational building was converted into a 1,224-bed hospital by transforming an abandoned multi-storey sports tower.

During the day, the team will be visiting Gandhi Hospital and containment zones in Domalaguda and Himayat Nagar. In the afternoon, the team will be interacting with state authorities to review the state's protocols for reducing the virus surge and giving their remarks on the same.

This is the third visit of the designated central Covid-19 team to the state since the detection of the first positive case in March. The previous visits, in April and June, deemed TS measures to eradicate the virus as satisfactory.

The third visit comes after Telangana reported a surge in the number of positive cases, with over 1,000 cases being reported on June 27.

The total positive cases in the state are 14,419, with 5,172 recoveries and 247 deaths.
