COVID-19: Eight more test positive at Hyderabad’s SVPNPA, tally jumps to 10

Hyderabad: The COVID tally at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA) has reached 10 after eight more people including a woman and four drivers tested positive at Shivarampally in Hyderabad.

Health department sources said the infected people are residing in the surrounding areas of the academy. Sources said they could have contracted the infection from a local source. It was found that they were not in contact with any of the trainees during the past few days.

All eight persons were shifted to isolation facilities and their families have been placed under quarantine. Some of their neighbors have also been advised to stay under home quarantine.

Around two weeks ago, two trainee IPS officers of the 2018 batch were tested positive for COVID 19 after which the containment measures were stepped up.

Since the pandemic broke out, the staff of the academy had been taking the utmost precautionary measure to control the spread.

More than 120 probationers belonging to the 2018 batch are currently undergoing training at the police academy. After completing the first phase of training, they were sent to different parts of the country for field experience.

During the first week of June, all the probationers returned to the academy. After conducting thermal screening and other health protocols, they were placed under quarantine. Samples of all the probationers’ were collected and reports of two came back positive.
