COVID 19: Gachibowli stadium converted into 1500-beded quarantine center

Hyderabad: Seemingly alarmed by the rise in COVID 19 positive cases, Health Minister Etela Rajender on Saturday said Gachibowli stadium has been converted into a 1500-bedded isolation ward for suspected patients in Telangana.

The Minister said a water storage tank with 10 lakh liters capacity will be installed to meet the requirements of 3000 people.

The minister has asked the officials to ready six floors of the stadium in the next six days. The stadium is expected to be ready within 20 days.

According to the health ministry, the central air conditioning system will be established in the stadium. The catering services will be outsourced to an independent party.

Sports Village at Gachibowli stadium which was constructed for the National Games of 2002 comprises 468 rooms, a basement, and a cellar.

Following the Covid-19 outbreak, the Health Department has taken the entire building under its control. The department has sought GHMC’s help to construct the quarantine facility.

With a sudden jump in the number of Covid-19 cases in Telangana, the state government has come up with a fresh set of measures to control the pandemic.

Ten thousand beds have been set up for the treatment of coronavirus patients. Of these, 7000 beds have been set up in different government medical colleges. The remaining 3000 beds have been earmarked in private medical colleges. In addition, 700 ICU and 190 ventilator beds have been kept ready to treat critical Covid19 patients.

According to the Health Ministry, there are a total of 58 active Coronavirus cases in the state. A family of six members from the old Hyderabad and a doctor family of four are the latest to have been tested positive in the state.
