Cricket betting racket busted: One held, Rs 32,500 cash seized

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Task Force sleuths busted a cricket betting racket and apprehended one of the organisers in the city.

On a tip off, the police swooped on the house of the accused at Chudi Bazar in Begum Bazar, from where the racket was being organised and arrested N. Vijay Kumar, 42, an employee in a private firm, while he was accepting money from the punters online on Wednesday when the IPL-2020 cricket match between Kolkata Knight Riders Vs Mumbai Indians was underway at Sheikh Zayad Stadium, Abu Dhabi. A television set, calculator, cell phones and Rs 32,500 cash were seized from his possession.

Vijay Kumar is a native of Hyderabad and was working as a supervisor in Padmini Road Lines Transport, Attapur. As his earnings were meagre to meet his lavish lifestyle, he decided to organise cricket betting and attracted punters online.

He has been organising cricket betting for the last three months and has been distributing and collecting money from nearly 10-15 punters in the twin cities.

The accused, along with the seized property, was handed over to the Shahinayathgunj police station house officer, Hyderabad, for further action under Section 209 of the TS Gaming Act, 1974.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Commissioner’s Task Force, P. Radha Kishan Rao led the team during the raid.
