Hyderabad: Mother, two children die in suspected suicide on Cherlapally railway tracks
Based on preliminary findings and the loco pilot’s statement, police suspect suicide, as no train tickets were found, indicating the victims entered the tracks intentionally

Hyderabad: In a tragic incident, a software professional and her two teenage children died by suicide on Saturday after jumping in front of train on the down line between Cherlapally and Ghatkesar railway stations.
Victims identified
Police identified the deceased as Pinninti Vijaya Shanthi Reddy (35), a resident of Harithaharam Colony in Boduppal, and her two children Chetana (18) and Vishal Reddy (17).
Students with a promising future
Chetana was pursuing Intermediate second year, while her younger brother Vishal was studying Intermediate first year.
No apparent financial distress
According to local residents, the family did not appear to be under financial strain. Vijaya Shanthi Reddy was employed as a software professional, earning around Rs 1 lakh per month.
Her husband, Surender Reddy, works with a ceramic company in Nellore and was reportedly in Nellore at the time of the incident.
GRP terms incident as suspected suicide
According to official information released by the Railway Police, the incident came to light around 2.30 a.m. on Saturday in the Cherlapally section at kilometre number 206/48, after the loco pilot of a goods train alerted authorities via walkie-talkie.
The loco pilot reported that three persons, one male and two females, were found dead after being run over by a train on the railway tracks. Acting on the information, IPF Cherlapally ASI (IPF) B.S. Rao and GRP personnel Sri Sai Eshwar Goud and SI Madhav rushed to the spot and inspected the scene.
The bodies were found lying between the tracks with severe injuries and were later identified as residents of Harithaharam Colony, Boduppal.
Based on preliminary findings and the loco pilot’s statement, police suspect the incident to be a case of suicide, as no train tickets were found on the victims, indicating that they may have come onto the tracks solely with the intent to end their lives. The bodies were shifted to Gandhi Hospital for post-mortem examination.
The Secunderabad Government Railway Police (GRP) registered a case under Crime No. 57/2026, invoking Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and stated that further investigation is underway.
Community in mourning
Residents of Harithaharam Colony expressed shock, stating that the family appeared normal and there were no visible signs of distress. Police said further details would emerge after the post-mortem reports and a thorough investigation.
