Hyderabad: The Rachakonda cybercrime police, on June 6, arrested a 23-year-old for allegedly sending derogatory messages to a lady via Facebook Messenger. According to the police, the accused Mothe Praveen had sent sexually explicit, derogatory messages to the complainant, following which he was arrested.
The accused, who hails from Boduppal in Hyderabad, was an acquaintance of the complainant. He had allegedly befriended her, and later send these derogatory messages through fake Facebook accounts. As per the police account, Praveen had created two fake accounts under fake names and began harassing the victim by asking her to send sexually explicit photos and videos. However, when the complainant rejected his request, the accused allegedly threatened to post her morphed photos on social media sites.
The police were able to arrest Mothe Praveen based on technical evidence provided by the complainant. Case has been registered against the accused under sections 354 D (Stalking), and Section 67, 67A of IT Act (Transmission of obscene material). The police also warned that creating fake accounts on social media can result in legal action against them.
Earlier on May 16, Rachakonda police had similarly arrested a 26-year-old youth for allegedly harassing a woman by sending abusive messages to her relatives. The youth, who is identified as Kola Harish Kumar, was working as an Assistant Professor in an engineering college, and had begun harassing the lady after she rejected his proposal. Police revealed that the cyberstalker would send sexually explicit messages to the woman, and also update his WhatsApp status with messages demeaning the woman. He allegedly threatened her that he would post her pictures on social media platforms and sent similar messages to her relatives as well.
