Death toll rises to 24, Andhra Pradesh shivers

Vijayawada: Two more COVID-19 deaths were reported in Andhra Pradesh while the hotbeds continued to register new positive cases as toll increased to 24. The number of infected shot up to 813 with the addition of 56 new cases on Wednesday.

The two deaths were reported from Guntur district, and the number of dead in the district rose to eight, the highest in the State. The Kurnool district which has emerged a hot bed of COVID-19 cases, crossed the double century mark with a total of 203 cases, the highest in the State.

Meanwhile, 24 more patients recovered from the disease and have been discharged in the last 24 hours. This takes the total number of cured to 120.

Andhra Pradesh has a total of 669 active Covid-19 cases undergoing treatment in various hospitals. Official sources said about 30 of these patients are in ICU and some of them are in critical condition.

19 more cases were added in Kurnool district, taking the aggregate to 203, the highest in the state. Guntur district, which is the second in the table, reported 19 new cases, making it a total of 177. Krishna district, with three additions, now has 86 cases.

For the fourth consecutive day, Nellore district didn’t register a single new case. The two north coastal districts of Srikakulam and Vizianagaram continued to maintain a clean slate with zero cases till date.

A total of 5,757 samples were tested from 9 am on Tuesday to 9 am on Wednesday, of which 5,701 turned negative and 56 proved positive.
