Deposited Rs 29.76L into account of martyred soldiers wife, Telangana govt tells HC

Hyderabad: The state government on Tuesday informed Telangana High Court that it has deposited Rs. 29, 76,750 into the bank account of martyred Lance Naik Mohd Feroz Khan's wife on July 31.

After hearing the counsel for the state government, a division bench of the HC comprising Chief Justice RS Chauhan and Justice B.Vijaysen Reddy directed the state government to file the proof of such a deposit.

The court said the state government has acted only after they intervened in the issue. The court later posted the matter to August 19.

The division bench was hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Pavan Kasturi, a resident of Saidabad Colony.

In his petition, Pavan said the state government had promised to give around Rs 30 lakh to the family members of Lance Naik Feroz Khan, who was martyred in Pakistani army firing at Line of Control in Poonch sector in 2013., However, the government failed to deposit the sum even after seven years.

He said that the pay and accounts department of the state government rejected the recommendation of Hyderabad district collector to deposit the sum in January this year. He said nonpayment of the promised amount was causing several problems for the wife of the martyred soldier and his three children.

He said that the casual approach of the state government is not only the gross violation of Article 14 of the constitution but also violation of the Supreme Court Judgement.

He urged the HC to issue orders to the state government to deposit the promised amount into the bank account of the wife of the martyred soldier.
