DiCaprio pledges $5 MN to help douse Amazon wildfires

Leonardo DiCaprio new environmental organisation Earth Alliance has pledged $5 million in donations to aid groups responding to the forest fires that are currently raging in the Amazon rainforest. On Sunday the organisation announced the Amazon Forest Fund, which they say will distribute donations “directly to local partners and the indigenous communities protecting the Amazon.”

On Sunday the organisation Tweeted, "#EarthAlliance has formed an emergency Amazon Forest Fund with $5m to focus critical resources for indigenous communities and other local partners working to protect the biodiversity of the Amazon against the surge of fires (sic)."

Sources say that The Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation (LDF) merged with Earth Alliance last month to, "help address the urgent threats to our planet's life support systems.”

DiCaprio took to Instagram and reposted a post from Earth Alliance following which fans were all praise for the actor. They took to the comments section to thank Leonardo and support his cause.

"Leo, there's no celeberty I know doing more for our planet than you! We need more celebrities to follow your great example to save the planet, before it's too late! What can we do to help get more celebrities to follow your lead for the world?" a follower asked. "RUN FOR PRESIDENT BRO," proclaimed another fan. "The amount of awareness you spread is spectacular. Thanks for all you do," added another.
