Doctor working at Koti govt hospital tests positive for COVID-19

Hyderabad: A 40-year-old doctor, who is a part of the COVID-19 control cell operating from the Government Hospital at Koti, was tested positive for the virus. The doctor, an ENT specialist, has been away from home for more than two weeks and was working full time at the hospital, dealing with COVID-19 patients.

According to sources, the doctor is a resident of Alkalpuri colony at Chaitanyapuri. He was working at the Government ENT hospital, but since the outbreak of COVID-19 in the state, he has been a part of the COVID-19 control cell. He was then visiting home once in a few days. But, as the state was witnessing an increase in the number of cases, he stopped going home. For more than the past two weeks, he stayed put in the hospital and continued working, without stepping out of the hospital.

Three days ago, he developed symptoms and his samples were collected. The results which came on Saturday, tested him to be positive. Though he was not home in the past two weeks, the area surrounding his house was declared a containment area and sanitizing measures were also taken up immediately. His family members were also advised to be under home quarantine and their samples were also collected as a precaution. Further, a few of his colleagues and supporting staff, worked with him, were also advised to go on home quarantine. Chaitanyapuri now has as many as five positive cases.
