Economic recession hits Telangana budget, cut by 36K crore

Hyderabad: Telangana budget has been cut by Rs 36,0000 crore in the budget proposed in Legislative Assembly on Monday when compared to vote on account budget. Economy slow-down has impacted Telangana budget.

The total budget of Telangana has been put at 1.46 lakh crore. The budget allocations to Scheduled castes decreased by Rs 9956 core, ST welfare by Rs 6165 crore, BC welfare by 2652 crore, minorities by Rs 630 crore, women welfare by Rs 383 crore.

While proposing the budget in the Legislative Assembly K Chandrashekar Rao said that he is feeling unfortunate to present this kind of budget. "I am feeling bad about presenting the budget for 2019-20 when the State and centre are seeing economic complexity.

The budget estimates have come down by 16 per cent when compared to 2018-19 and 19.5 per cent when compared to vote on account budget. Centre funding has come down to the State. The growth rate in revenue has fallen to 6 per cent. The situation has worsened in the past four months.

Despite the economic recession, K Chandrahsekar Rao has struck a balance between welfare and development. Rao has allocated Rs 6000 crore to farm loan waiver and Rs 8490 crore to the irrigation department. Rao said 60 per cent of his budget was allotted to the welfare of farmers, Scheduled castes, Scheduled Tribes, Minorities welfare.
