ED issues look out notice for Chidambaram

New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate has issued a lookout notice against former finance minister P. Chidambaram, on Wednesday, in connection with the INX Media money laundering case.

The agencies said that the alert notice against the Congress leader, whose anticipatory bail was rejected on Tuesday, has been sent to all land, air and seaports and law enforcement agencies at these facilities. It says, that the ED should be alerted in case the person is found on their premises.

Sources in both the agencies —the CBI and the ED— continue to say that the location of Chidambaram is not known, despite their respective teams searching different places.

Meanwhile, a Supreme Court bench headed by Justice N.V. Ramana on Wednesday said that Chidambaram’s plea against the Delhi High Court’s order cancelling his anticipatory bail plea would be put before Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi to consider for urgent listing.

“I am sending it to the Chief Justice of India. He will pass orders,” the bench told Senior lawyer Kapil Sibal, who is appearing for Chidambaram. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the ED and CBI, told the bench that it is a case of money laundering of “monumental magnitude.”

In the latest development, both the CBI and the ED have filed Caveats, in the Apex Court, against Chidambaram’s petition seeking protection from arrest. It means, the Court now cannot pass an order without hearing the party who has filed it i.e. both the Investigative agencies.

Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi have condemned these latest developments.
