Eight dead,  27 rescued & 25 passengers still missing in Godavari boat tragedy

Hyderabad: Out of 60 passengers 27 passengers have been rescued, and about 25 are still missing as per Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA) in the boat tragedy incident took place in Godavari river on Sunday.

The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon when a Private Tourist Boat Capsized' Sri Vasishtha Rayal' in Godavari River. So far, 27 passengers are rescued, and eight dead bodies were retrieved, whereas 25 passengers are still missing.

Out of 27 persons rescued, 16 are given first aid treatment at Area Hospital, Rampachodavaram and shifted to GGH Rajahmundry for further treatment and trauma counselling. The remaining '11' to be brought to Area Hospital Rampachodavaram.

Necessary arrangements are being made by District administration for a stay of rescued persons at Lahspin Hotel a 3 Star accommodation, post-medical treatment and trauma counselling, till they are safely escorted to their respective places.

The eight retrieved dead bodies were shifted to GGH Rajahmundry for Post Mortem, and medical teams are made ready for conducting post mortem from Monday morning onwards.

Six fire Teams from East and West Godavari Districts with eight IR boats, 12 Aska Lights and 1 Satellite Phone have reached the spot and are engaged in search and rescue operations. Two NDRF and two SDRF have been deployed at the spot with all necessary rescue and communication equipment. One SDRF and one NDRF are engaged in operations and remaining NDRF, and SDRF teams have reached the location.

A team of specialized deep divers with 'Side Scan Sonar' equipment from Uttarakhand state to reach Vijayawada on Monday for retrieving leftover dead bodies from the river. A team of Indian Navy Deep Divers reached the spot, and a ONGC Chopper is pressed into service for search operations.
