Eluru top cop suspends inspector who failed to arrest Chintamaneni

Eluru: In a new twist in the case against former Denduluru MLA Chintamaneni Prabhakar, Deputy Inspector General (Eluru Range) AS Khan on Thursday suspended Inspector of Three Town police station (Eluru) K Murthy for the negligence of duty in the case and failed to arrest the former MLA.

A complaint was lodged against Chintamaneni under the SC/ST Atrocities Act, for allegedly attacking one Cheraku Joseph of Pedavagi Mandal on August 30 when TDP leaders were protesting the state government’s new sand policy. Chintamaneni was detained but, later, he managed to give the police the slip. He was also able to evade the police for four more days.

Superintendent of Police, West Godavari Navadeep Singh Grewal said that there 50 cases have registered against the former Denduluru MLA Chintamaneni Prabhakar till now. The police officer also interacted with the victims, who lodged police complaints against Chintamaneni over the last few years. Refuting the allegations that police implicated Chintamaneni, the Superintendent of Police Navadeep Singh Grewal said that based on the complaints from the victims including police personnel several cases were booked against the former MLA.

Police would give protection to Cheraku Joseph, who has been facing threats from the henchmen of Chintamaneni. The police have begun a massive search for Chintamaneni Prabhakar, following his failure to appear before a court in Eluru on Tuesday. We will arrest the former MLA in a couple of days, the police officer said.
