Essentials to be supplied door-to-door in Tirupati

Tirupati: In the light of severe restrictions on travel in public, officials of the Tirupati Municipal Corporation have started a novel initiative of supplying essential commodities right to people’s doorsteps. The district administration requested the traders, supermarkets, and chain stores to take immediate measures for supplying commodities to people’s homes so that the lockdown continues as planned. Municipal commissioner P.S Girisha asked people to call 0877-2256766 for queries. Civic officials have also planned measures to ensure social distancing is followed.

Soon after the first COVID-19 case was reported in the district on Tuesday, officials of the district medical and health department swung into action by screening all houses within a radius of 3 km of the patient’s residence in Srikalahasti on Wednesday.

D. Markandeyulu, joint collector, said on Wednesday, that the markets will be kept open in Chittoor between 6 a.m and 9 a.m and the traders will take orders for commodities over the phone. Supermarkets and wholesale dealers such as More, Reliance, Vishal Mart, Sai Selvam Super Market, G Nagaraja Setty, Pathi General Stores, Vinayaka Stores, Sakthi Stores have been told to extend their services to the needy population.

“These measures are needed to maintain social distancing. Vehicles for the supply of the essentials will be allowed to ply. New Rythu Bazaars will be opened for the supply of vegetables,” said Markandeyulu.
