Ex-army man detained for opening fire

Peddapalli: Police have detained a retired army man after he opened fire in air at village Sayampet of Dharmaram Mandal in Peddapalli district.

Identified as Baddam Tirumal Reddy, he has been shifted to Peddapalli ACP office for inquiry.

On Friday morning, villagers heard the noise of weapon firing and alerted the police. After enquiry, police found that Tirumal Reddy had opened fire. Though no one was injured, police are probing on what led him to open fire.

Police are also probing whether he has a licence for the weapon. A case has been registered and further investigation is underway.

Meanwhile, forensic teams have also arrived in the village to collect shells and empty cartridges for analysis. Another team is conducting searches at his house for any more harmful material.
