Fact Check: Did a mob assault police officers in Hyderabads Old City?

Hyderabad: The police have been taking strict action against those who are violating the lock-down guidelines and coming out on the roads. Many videos and pictures of police brutally beating up people for flouting the rules have gone viral. Amidst this, a video of a mob attacking police constables in Hyderabad's Old City is doing the rounds of social media.

A Twitter used shared the video with a tweet that read, "Brave police men in Hyderabad old city. What is the police control room doing @hydcitypolice @HMOIndia please order any one touching police personnel to be arrested. Please act on this video (sic)."

Many users have replied to this tweet questioning the credibility of the location of this video.

Fact Check:

The claim that this incident took place in the Old City in Hyderabad is FALSE.

NewsMeter did a reverse images search on Google and found a link published on the ABP News website. While ABP was not certain where the incident occurred, it said it may have taken place in Agnipada, Mumbai.

While the newsreader says the incident took place in Bengaluru, the video narration says this video might be from Agripada, Mumbai, and adds they are unable to confirm the exact location. Another incident from Bengaluru is also reported in the same news bulletin.

Hyderabad City police investigated the above claim and confirmed that the video is NOT from Hyderabad. They even tweeted saying the video is NOT from the Old City and instructed the user to delete the tweet.

Hence, the claim that the video shows a mob assaulting police in Old City, Hyderabad, is FALSE.
