FACT CHECK:

Newsmeter performed a keyword search and found a video report from India Today dated July 2, 2012. The report description reads, "Rumi Nath and her husband were beaten up and injured when they were attacked by a 100 strong mob in a hotel in Karimganj".

Rumi Nath, also known as Rabeya Sultana, is a politician from the Indian National Congress and was a member of Assam Legislative Assembly. Below is a comparison of the woman in the viral image and Rumi Nath.

An article by The Hindu states that the mob shouted slogans, threw stones and barged into their hotel room. Ms. Nath and her second husband Mr. Zakir took shelter inside the toilet but the mob broke open the door, dragged them out and beat them up. The SP said some people had been expressing resentment over her second marriage.

Nath, who was pregnant and representing Borkhola Assembly constituency in Barak Valley created a commotion by announcing her marriage to Zakir without divorcing her first husband. Her first husband, Rakesh Singh filed an FIR that she was allegedly kidnapped after she went missing the previous day. Ms. Nath, later, appeared in Guwahati on June 2 and said she was not kidnapped and that she was on a holiday trip to Agartala. She then announced that she and Mr. Zakir had been married and that her papers for divorce with her first husband were ready. This news led to the assault on Nath and Zakir.

Other media outlets like ABP News, Headlines Today, The Indian Express have also reported the incident.
