Hyderabad: A video is viral where cattle can be seen being washed away in the floods. The SIASAT DAILY wrote in its report that “Several places in Madhya Pradesh including Bhopal, Sehore, and Indore witnessed heavy rains since Friday. A heartbreaking video of the herd of cows has surfaced on social media in the state”.

The Free Press also shared the same report and wrote “Heart Wrenching video of cows being swept away as rains lash Madhya Pradesh’s Sonkatch”.

Fact Check:

The claim is FALSE as the video is from Mexico. Cows have swept away in floodwaters in Nayarit, Mexico.

Newsmeter did a keyword search on google, ‘cows washed away in floodwaters. It found that the viral video fact-checked by several news websites. Earlier, the same video was shared with the claim that this incident took place in Kerala. But it took place in Mexico.

An article published on July 27, 2020, by a Mexican news website “Como Sucedio” carried a more extended version of the viral clip. The headline of the article translates in English to “Zacualpan River overflows in Nayarit and drags cattle”.

According to the article, after the tropical storm Hanna, Zacualpan River in the state of Nayarit overflowed and carried away a herd of cattle and left damage to homes located on its banks.

Mexican newspaper La Jornada had also reported the incident.

On comparing the clip with the other videos posted by the fact check sites, we found that all of them match with each other.

The news websites that fact-checked about the viral video this month include AltNews, BoomLive, IndiaToday, and Factly.

Even Times of India also shared the same video and stated that it was from Madhya Pradesh, the title was later changed to Watch: Several cows washed away in floodwaters in Mexico

Hence, the claim is FALSE.
