Fact Check: Viral video of a girl being hit by a car is not from Durgam Cheruvu bridge

Hyderabad: Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development K.T. Rama Rao inaugurated the cable-stayed bridge on Durgam Cheruvu in September 2020. The bridge provides direct connectivity to the public from Jubilee Hills, Banjara Hills, and other parts of the city to Hitec City, Gachibowli, ORR, and Shamshabad.

After this engineering marvel was inaugurated, there had been several incidents where people were found stopping to click selfies thereby increasing the traffic problems on this new road. The CCTV cameras installed on the bridge captured a few dangerous stunts by reckless people.

A video of a girl being hit by a car on a bridge is now going viral on the social media claiming that it took place on the Durgam Cheruvu bridge.

Archive links pf the claims can be found here and here.

Fact Check:

The claim is FALSE.

Many videos captured by the CCTVs were released and shared rampantly on social media warning people not to attempt such acts. The cops have warned people not to carry out such stunts but still, people are continuing it.

After this scenario, the Cyberabad traffic police have issued guidelines for the movement of vehicles and people on the bridge, as many started thronging it for selfies and sight-seeing. The guidelines prohibit walking on the main carriageway when there is vehicular movement. Crossing the road on the bridge, standing or sitting on the road or against the side railings is also prohibited.

According to a news report published in Telugu news daily Sakshi, an official at the Madhapur traffic police station said, "Traffic is not allowed on the bridge after 11 pm and our officials are on the bridge ensuring that the traffic keeps moving and people's safety is also being taken care of."

No incidents of death have been reported on Durgam Cheruvu bridge so far.

When we performed a reverse image search of the key frames extracted from the video, we found that this video is on the internet from 2017. The incident seems to have occurred in September 2017 in China.

This video has been shared on Live Leak.com with the title "Assume China as voiceover sounds Chinese and this kind of event is just typical of the kinda shit that goes down there..."

A website named Zhangzs.com also published this video under the title 'A Collection of car accidents in September 2017'

Though we could not establish the exact location, this video was viral for its contents. A story was also published by Misterikisah.com in September 2017 stating that accidents can happen if we are not alert.

Hence, the claim that the viral video is from Durgam Cheruvu is FALSE.
