Fact Check: Will CBSE resume Class X, XII exams from 22 April?

Hyderabad: Schools and colleges have been closed across the country since last month in view of the Corona virus pandemic. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has instructed all its affiliated schools to promote students from Classes I to VIII. It has also postponed the board exams for Classes X and XII and the new date for the exams is yet to be announced.

A document claiming to be a press release from CBSE is going viral online. The press note, which says exams for Classes X and XII will resume from 22 April, is creating confusion among students and parents.

Fact check:

This document is NOT released by the CBSE.

When we carefully observed the document, we found that the font size varies from line to line, confirming that a few lines have been changed in a previously-released press note. There is NO authoritative signature of the CBSE secretary, Mr Anurag Tripathi.

On 1 April, the Board had released a statement saying that decision regarding Class X and XII exams was still pending considering the present uncertain conditions.

PIB India also fact-checked this claim and confirmed that it was FALSE.

Here is an extract from the CBSE's original press release taken from CBSE's website http://cbse.nic.in/newsite/index.html

Hence, a press release stating the CBSE Class X and XII exams will resume from 22 April is FAKE. It is a tampered document created with an intent to confuse students and parents.
